TUCSON, FIREBALL JUNE 23, 2009
A large bolide fireball seen over southern Arizona

A large fireball (meteor) was seen in the night sky over southern Arizona at approximately 9:20 pm on Tuesday, June 23. The fireball was caught on film and seen by numerous witnesses. It clearly broke into several pieces, and may have been satellite debris, or an extraterrestrial meteoroid burning up in our atmosphere.

Aerolite Meteorites owner and meteorite hunter, Geoffrey Notkin, a Tucson resident visited the KOLD News Channel 13 studios in Tucson to present a report of what the fireball may have been, and to give advice on how to look for fragments. There may be meteorites on the ground in southern Arizona and we hope to assist in recovering fragments for study.
