GIBEON
Iron Meteorite (IVA)
The Gibeon iron, from the Namib Desert, has long been a favorite of collectors because of its sculpted appearance, stability, attractive etch pattern, and lovely, rich desert patina. Some years ago, Gibeon meteorites were relatively common in the marketplace, but a ban on hunting and export from Namibia has made these excellent irons almost impossible to obtain. I acquired most of these great specimens from a colleague who had kept some quality specimens in storage. I picked these particular pieces because of their excellent shapes. These Gibeons make outstanding display pieces and are sure to increase in value as the supply continues to diminish.

GLORIETA MOUNTAIN
Rare Iron Meteorites from the Pallasite Strewn field (PAL)
First discovered in the late 19th Century, Glorieta is one of the most remarkable and desirable American meteorites. Pallasites and siderites have both been found in the same strewnfield. Individuals display a lovely caramel patina, well defined thumbprints and fusion crust suggesting a fairly recent fall. The terrain is notoriously rugged and difficult to navigate, and for many years scouring the rugged slopes of Glorieta Mountain has been a right of passage for the most determined of meteorite hunters. Learn more about the history of the Glorieta Mountain meteorite.

HENBURY
Iron Meteorite (IIIAB)
The Henbury iron was discovered in 1931 and is associated with twelve impact craters in central Australia; the largest is pictured at left. Henbury irons display one of the best desert patinas of any meteorite — a reddish-crimson color slowly acquired over hundreds of years. The crater field is now a protected area and meteorite hunting is no longer allowed. As a result Henburys have all but disappeared from the marketplace and these are my last specimens of any size.

MUNDRABILLA
Iron Meteorite (IAB)
A remarkable Australian iron, Mundrabillas are known for their unusual zoomorphic shapes, many of which seem to resemble animals or modern sculptures. Mundrabilla is a medium octahedrite with an attractive etch pattern. It is found in a very remote area of Western Australia. All specimens are as-found, with an orange/ochre patina. Most available Mundrabilla specimens are very small. It is very unusual to see good quality sculptural specimens, such as these, of this size.

ODESSA — Historic Draeger/Nininger Specimens
Iron Meteorite (IAB)
Captain Draeger [left] was one of the first American meteorite hunters and made many notable finds particularly at the Odessa, Texas crater. He was a friend and colleague of H.H. Nininger and also one of his suppliers. I purchased a collection of Odessas from the Draeger estate. All the irons were in one box, and several carry authentic Nininger numbers. I don't know if Draeger found them and sold or traded them to Nininger or vice-versa but these irons were certainly handled by both of those great hunters. This is my last sizeable piece from this collection.

ODESSA 135.5 grams

Odessa, Texas iron meteorite

"THE PEREZ IRON"
A transported Odessa with Dr. Elbert King Papers

This iron was found in a remote part of north Texas by a ranch hand. Decades later a sample was sent to NASA's Dr. Elbert King who identified it as a transported Odessa iron — hundreds of miles from the crater. A large polished face reveals a gorgeous etch with spherical inclusion. Comes with a collection of original, signed King letters! A remarkable historic piece. More >>>

SIKHOTE-ALIN (INDIVIDUALS)
Iron Meteorite (IIAB)
As a collector and enthusiast, Sikhote-Alin is easily my favorite meteorite. The Sikhote-Alin shower of 1947 took place in a remote area of eastern Russia and was the largest single meteoritic event documented in modern times. It is an extremely rare witnessed fall iron, and many individuals display the classic characteristics of meteorites: regmaglypts, orientation, rollover lips, and even impact pits from in-flight collisions with other meteorites! Sikhote-Alin is an extremely stable and affordable meteorite. Once relatively available in the marketplace, intensive hunting at the fall site has resulted in the area being completely hunted out, and no new specimens now make it into collectors' hands. What we have now is what we have.

Sikhote-Alin oriented iron meteorite with regmaglypts   NEW!
AAA-GRADE PREMIUM SIKHOTE-ALIN SPECIMENS

The Russian witnessed fall iron, Sikhote-Alin is easily our favorite meteorite of all time, and these super premium specimens are the best of the best. Just acquired from an old collection in Russia they feature extraordinary artistic forms, orientation, rollover lips, and natural holes. Even if you're not shopping for a specimen, please enjoy the photos of these wonderful space sculptures.

SIKHOTE-ALIN (SHRAPNEL)
Iron Meteorite (IIAB)
These exciting specimens are from the same fall, but are known as shrapnel specimens. They broke due to atmospheric pressure and/or mid-air collisions, and possibly also explosive fragmentation upon impact. These pieces really show the power and fury of an iron meteorite fall: ripped and torn edges reminiscent of bomb shrapnel. These pieces are very rare — they have not been cleaned and still have their attractive, natural ochre patina.

TAZA (NWA 859)
Iron Meteorite (ungrouped) Plessitic octahedrite
A colleague of mine in Europe calls this gorgeous meteorite "The Princess of the Irons" and the title is well deserved. Found near the Moroccan town of Taza in 2001, this rare desert iron is an ungrouped (UNGR) plessitic octahedrite and is also known as Northwest Africa 859. Taza irons display a lovely caramel colored patina; many specimens retain some original blue-grey fusion crust, and many also show features of orientation. Although similar in appearance to Sikhote-Alin individuals, the Taza shower was tiny in comparison, with a total known weight of less than 80 kg. The majority of Taza irons are very small — less than 20 grams. I handpicked these fabulous oriented specimens out a batch of many kilos which came directly from Northwest Africa, and I was lucky enough to acquire a few larger examples in the 40 to 125-gram range. One of my favorite meteorites!

TOLUCA
Iron Meteorite (IAB)
The Toluca iron comes from Xiquipilco in Mexico, near Mexico City. It is one of the earliest known meteorites and was first discovered in 1776, the same year that the United States declared independence from Great Britain. At that time, most scientists still did not believe that meteorites fell from the sky. Some early finds were forged into tools and weapons. Toluca has a particularly lovely etch pattern and is one of the few Mexican iron meteorites available to collectors.

WOLF CREEK
Iron Meteorite (IIIAB)
Australia's largest meteorite crater is also the second best preserved crater in the world, after Arizona's Meteor Crater (Canyon Diablo). The impactor was estimated at 50,000 tons in size and is thought to have hit the Earth about 300,000 years ago. Wolf Creek specimens are weathered, but have a unique character, an attractive dark ginger natural patina, and are one of our planet's oldest known meteorites.
